The 10 Must-Read Articles for Recruiters This Week

With tech layoffs dominating the business headlines this week, compassionate layoff communications are more necessary than ever.

Meta laid off 11,000 employees this past Wednesday — three times the number of Twitter jobs impacted last week. And Salesforce announced it had let go of hundreds of employees too.

Having a clear and honest explanation of why a reduction in force is needed is absolutely critical, according to the Harvard Business Review. The messaging needs to include “forward-looking vision of how this action positively positions the company going forward,” HBR says, “as well as a high-level outline of any planned changes in strategy or organizational structure.”

Then, coordinating the sequence of events is key: It could be the difference between a bungled job and one that’s better received.

Learn more about the specifics for a compassionate workforce reduction strategy in the Harvard Business Review, which tops our list below of must-read articles for talent professionals. Further down, learn more about Chick-fil-A’s three-day workweek and why it has people reconsidering a compact schedule. And elsewhere on our list, Jack Appleby from the Morning Brew explains his ghosting story and BBC Worklife describes how one man secured 15 job interviews by sending 50 donut boxes to various heads of marketing.
