The 10 Must-Read Articles for Talent Professionals This Week
When it comes to leadership positions, men have an enormous edge over women — and the latest Women in the Workplace report signals that this disparity could get even worse.
“[F]or every woman promoted to the director level,” Vox reports, “two women at that level are leaving.”
Women leaders are switching jobs at a high rate, according to the report from McKinsey and LeanIn.Org. And though many are leaving for better opportunities, 29% of women have considered downshifting and leaving the workforce altogether.
The report partnered with 333 organizations and more than 40,000 employees and found that last year, 10.5 percent of women in leadership — senior managers to C-suite level — said goodbye to their jobs, compared with 9 percent of men. This is the highest attrition rate since McKinsey and LeanIn started collecting data in 2015 to track the progress of women in the workforce.
In other articles from our list below of must-reads for talent professionals, ERE says the U.S. labor market added 263,000 jobs, solid growth despite economic uncertainty. And for companies tightening their grips on hiring, MIT Sloan Management Review encourages organizations to offer more lateral career opportunities. Employees can still experience professional growth and build new skills with a parallel move, one recent study argues.
Further down our list, Microsoft’s chief marketing officer talks about the payoff of picking cool jobs and not worrying about lateral moves, while the BBC explains economic conditions from a Gen Z lens.
