The 10 Must-Read Articles for Talent Professionals This Week

What do calls for a shorter workweek, quiet quitting, and “bare minimum Mondays” (the latest workplace trend to hit social media) have in common?

The answer, according to a recent article from Fast Company, is employees’ efforts — especially Gen Z workers — to create better work-life boundaries and improve their well-being.

Although many may scoff at these viral trends, studies are confirming some of the sentiments behind these latest hashtags — many workers are burnt out and feeling anxious about the future. Fast Company cites a survey that found that 26% of Gen Zers are unhappy in their jobs and 17% are actively thinking about quitting — all numbers that are significantly higher than those for their Baby Boomer, Gen X, and Millennial coworkers.

As a result, leaders who are looking to attract and retain the workforce’s youngest generation need to take a closer look at what Gen Zers really want from a job. “According to the study,” writes Fast Company, “the newest generation wants more from their jobs. They want professional development and won’t be content without new opportunities to learn. And if they need their work to bring out the best in them, it has to really mean something too.”

To learn more about what makes Gen Z tick, be sure to check out Fast Company’s article at the top of our list below of must-read articles for talent professionals. And further down the list, you can also learn why a recruiter left their conversation with ChatGPT feeling confident about the future of their role; why companies shouldn’t be afraid of turnover; and why some businesses are taking the unusual step of tying compensation to days at the office.
