The Must-Read Articles for Talent Professionals This Week
If you’re having retention issues and are losing high performers to competitors, it may be time to focus on an often-overlooked role within your organization: the middle manager.
“Companies need to upskill their middle managers urgently,” Fast Company writes in a recent article, “to keep employees engaged and stop hemorrhaging talent. After all, talent is critical for success — companies in the top quartile of employee engagement achieve 23% higher profitability than those in the bottom quartile.”
Middle managers, FC argues, need to get better at giving feedback and encouraging more collaboration within their teams. And if their first impulse is to jump in and try to fix everyone’s problems on their own, that needs to change too.
“Managers need to change their mindset from perceiving themselves as the manager and solver of all problems,” FC writes, “to becoming the enabler of other people’s talents and capabilities. . . . To do this, they need to adopt an enquiry-led approach by learning to ask powerful and insightful questions that encourage reflection at the point that would be most helpful to someone’s thinking.”
To learn more about this idea of moving from a management mindset to one that’s more about enablement, be sure to check out FC’s piece at the top of our list below of must-read articles for talent professionals. And further down our list, you can find out why AI may actually make HR more human; how candidates are gaming the hiring process with a whole new set of tools; and why the generation sandwiched between Millennials and Baby Boomers may be experiencing a “career meltdown.”
